Hello again!
I’ve grossly neglected this blog over the past year as I grew bored with posting about running (I ran, it was good/bad/meh, the weather was good/bad/meh, etc.). Not to say I’m bored of running, just talking about it. NYC Marathon was great, btw, despite some unavoidable training setbacks.
Lately I’ve found myself fairly obsessed with nail art, especially on youtube and insta, and I’ve been posting on insta (@runrunlolo) quite a bit (not youtube though, maybe eventually?). Since I have this platform already I figure I may as well close the loop.
This is a design I did a while back and posted to instagram – a sheer pink base with black “daggers” and a holo topcoat.
I used a mat, though it’s actually just a plastic page protector that you can get in a pack of 100 at any stationary supply store (and I also use regular old liquid latex instead of some $14 for 15 ml bottle of “nail protector” – gasp!) and painted a thick strip of black. I let it dry completely overnight and then cut it into long, thin triangles. I stuck the triangles onto my base using clear polish and then topped it all off with a holo topcoat.
Hoooolllllooooo 🙂
You can see that my cutting was not as precise as it could have been but overall I think this is a really great way to achieve this type of look without using nail vinyls.
I have nothing against nail vinyls except that I like to use a peel-off base coat and that makes vinyl-usage dangerous 🙂 I’ll have to see if I can dupe the fancier nail vinyls like the cyclones. I could probably get the chevron effect pretty easily with some pinking shears….
Question for my fellow nail-philes, what type of camera do you use? Do you ever make videos (for insta or youtube)? Any recommendations for an entry-level unit? Right now I just use my phone and the quality is obviously not great.
