Hello!
I’m back with another fall design, a warm red holo scaled gradient:
Check out the video below to see how easy it really is:
All you need to get this red holo scaled gradient look at home are:
- A couple of fairly opaque polishes (ones that cover pretty fully in one coat).
- Regular makeup sponges.
- Scalloped nail vinyls. If you don’t have the vinyls you could always use scotch tape, which would give you a flat edge rather than the “scale” look. Or, if you can get your hands on some of those fancy crafting scissors that create neat scalloped edges, use those to cut the edge of your tape into a cool design.
- Liquid latex or other nail barrier. If you don’t have these, scotch tape is once again your friend! Really though, this is just to make cleanup easier. You could always skip this step and just deal with having to spend a bit more time with acetone or nail polish remover on the clean up.
The key is to make sure to apply a quick-dry top coat between the gradients to prevent the vinyl from sticking and peeling off your design.
I originally created the design on all four fingers, but sadly lost the index and pinkie ones when my peel-off base coat failed me. *cry* But that’s okay! My favourite holo red came to my rescue 🙂
I also tried this in blue with three layers, and while the gradient wasn’t as clearly defined I really liked one particular aspect. You’ll see that version soon. 🙂
Until then!
