I’m a life-long Edmontonian with a passion for nail art, running, snowboarding, yoga, and coconut oil.
A little history on my nail journey:
For most of my life I was a horrendous nail-biter. We’re talking down to the quick, bleeding, infected, disgusting. My mom was always on my case (love you mom!) for obvious reasons, but we all know that social/family pressure rarely helps people overcome bad habits.
As I got older I managed to curb the habit by painting my nails (with regular polish, not that vile nail-biter polish) but I didn’t really keep up on the polish and my nails were brittle and always breaking, splitting, forming hangnails, etc. It didn’t help that I transferred my disgusting habit for nail biting to an even more disgusting habit of biting the skin around my nails. I forced myself out of this habit through an obsession with nail oil – every time I wanted to stick my hands in my mouth I oiled them with a cuticle oil pen instead.
I still have occasions where I subconsciously bite, usually when I’m very stressed, but I’m able to quickly stop myself by telling myself how bad it will look in the pictures!
So my advice to help stop biting your nails: start pampering them and putting them on display!
